Current issues

In this section you can read about Tulip’s attitude to current issues relating to food and food safety.

Obesity

or consumers wanting reduced fat food Tulip offers a range of reduced fat products.  We do this by:

-          Including DEN GRØNNE SLAGTER in our range.

-          Offering other reduced fat products e.g. soups and poultry products.

-          Working together with organisations and institutions concerning the supply of information about reduced fat diets.

-          Developing new reduced fat products and offering reduced fat products to the fast food and catering sectors.

Enriched products

Enriched products have added vitamins and minerals

Tulip does not currently produce enriched products although we are not averse to doing this in the future.

However, we only wish to enrich products with the vitamins and minerals already present in the products in question.

In this case, we would, of course, want to be able to state that the product is enriched.  This, however, is not allowed under current Danish legislation.  We are, therefore, awaiting changes to the law.

Organic products

Tulip does not produce organic products

Traceability

All Tulip’s products can be identified through a code which can, for example, consist of a product code, product description and use-by date.

Tulip’s internal systems at the factories ensure that the finished products can be traced back to the supplier of the raw materials.

Allergies

Gluten, soya and lactose

Products from DEN GRØNNE SLAGTER brand are gluten, soya and lactose-free (except for the liver paté) which contains lactose.  These products are made under special conditions designed to ensure that they do not come into contact with gluten, soya or lactose from other products.

Legislation concerning allergy causing materials

As from November 25, 2005 the declarations on Tulip’s products state whether they contain allergens.

GM free products

Tulip does not use ingredients that contain declarable genetically modified organisms (GMO).

In accordance with a circular on GMO ratified in the European Parliament, Tulip must be able to document that all raw materials and ingredients do not contain declarable GMO.

Quality standards

Several major British multiples demand that Tulip’s factories are certified in accordance with the UK quality standard BRC (British Retailer Consortium).  Currently, 8 of Tulip’s factories have been BRC approved.

As demanded by German multiples, 7 of Tulip’s factories are certified in accordance with the equivalent German Standard IFS (International Food Standard).

In addition to these certifications all Tulip's factories have compulsory audit programmes.

All these approvals mean that the quality management systems are audited at regular intervals by independent accreditation bodies. The factories are also audited by the Danish authorities and by representatives from British, German and Danish supermarket chains.
